History



Around 1755, people of European descent settled into the area now known as Charlotte. After the American Revolution, it was aptly nicknamed The City of Churches because the neighborhoods welcomed numerous houses of worship in different denominations. The nation's first gold discovery was in the Charlotte area, propelling the infamous gold rush. Even today, some people pan for gold in local streams.


Parks and recreation



A green, vibrant and beautiful city such as Charlotte is teeming with opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Charlotte area is home to 210 parks and facilities located on more than 17,600 acres of parkland throughout Mecklenburg County.

Many residents of Charlotte real estate and tourists swarm to Carowinds, an amusement park built with Disneyland as the inspiration. Within the park's confines are 14 roller coasters and seven water rides. Operating season is late March through early November. Boomerang Bay, a 20-acre water park at Carowinds, is included in the price of regular admission.

There is always something going on in Charlotte. Events range from seasonal and annual events to weekly and daily events which fill the social calender of the many residents who call this vibrant city home.

The Fillmore Charlotte, located at 820 Hamilton Street, features live music performances in an historic textile mill, modeled after the legendary Fillmore of San Francisco. With red oak hardwood floors, brilliant chandeliers, stadium-style tiers and a unique ambiance, the Fillmore is as much an attraction as it is a venue for entertainment. 

Charlotte homes in proximity to the North Davidson neighborhood, known as NoDa, attract local artists and musicians. NoDa is an historic district filled with art galleries, restaurants, breweries, theaters and street performers. The Evening Muse, offers open mic night every Monday at 8 p.m. On other nights, listen to jazz, country or electronic music, admire the walls of original artwork and imbibe in the diverse collection of wine and beer.
